Returned 2017

Only in the last 2 years was I given a tiny suitcase with a myriad of items in it belonging to my grandfather on Dad's side who died before I was born. There was a collection of coins from late 1800's to 1920's from England, South Africa, Egypt, Turkey, India and Australia. There were several post cards. There a few photographs. There was a tiny leather sachel with a gold coin it, probably from a WWI uniform.

My grandfather served in the Devon Regiment for Great Britain in World War I. He had a sweetheart before he went to war, who gave secret correspondence on moth or butterfly wings enclosed in envelopes. But when he returned he didn't marry her.

He never spoke of the war to my father, and most of his experiences were lost or from word of mouth from other relatives. He was India at Kut. He was injured there and retained a limp throughout his life. It's believed he went back to England to recuperate and then went The Front in Europe. He emmigrated to Australia with one of his brothers in 1925. He married an Australian around 20 years later and had two children.

So I thought I would do this page based on the items I found in that little suitcase (which is for storing Mason regalia) plus his medals which my father now has.

The Artastic April 2017 inspiration really reminded me of the items in that suitcase, so I decided to make a page from them, plus two extras from the internet, and flowers depicting Germany (cornflower), Lily of the Valley(England), Tulip (Turkey), and Poppy (France).
